The Limelight Hotel, Boulder

Inspired by the landscape surrounding Boulder, Colorado. Where the great plains meet the mountains…where the sky meets the land.

threshold

“THRESHOLD” a series of (10) 16” x 20” monoprints that measure a total of 80” x 40”.

The work depicts the moment of decision to cross-over and enter into a new existence or place of understanding. For a designer, each day, each project is an opportunity, a chance to dream the world anew.

Of new beginnings, John O’Donohue says, “And out you stepped onto new ground, Your eyes young again with energy and dream, A path of plenitude opening before you.”

landscape of emotion

2022 | SOLD

Series of 12 :

12” x 19” Monoprints

What if the inside was outside? What if we could explore our emotions the way that we walk through a landscape?

mosaic | The Overstory

12 Panels (13" x 22" each) : 52" x 66"

Imagine yourself laying beneath a silver maple that has grown through the seasons for 200 years. The sunlight glimmers in the leaves, a warm breeze moves softly across your skin, the smell of earth and green things fills you and you are home.

Inspired by Richard Powers' novel, this 12 panel monoprint (64" x 60") points to the unseen pulsing life that surrounds us.

"If your mind were only a slightly greener thing, we'd drown you in meaning." -R.P.

where she walks

20” x 24” Monoprints | Bailey Haines 2020

A series of abstract contemporary monoprints that depict the slow conversational movement of light and legs and eyes through the western landscape.

Crater Lake // Old Ways

13” x 21” Mixed Media Monoprint | Bailey Haines 2021

The old ways I am thinking about are mine…and maybe yours.

When I had very little but a sense of wonder and deep pockets of time, I would spend my days immersed in the wild. I would follow game trails, sketch wildflowers, swim in mountain lakes, and generally get very dirty and sometimes lost in my ventures.

These are the memories that shimmer and glow for me now in my middle life. I do and do not wish to return, knowing what I know now….But I cherish that time, idle years in which my fascination with our world grew. I wish that gift of space and time for all…where we feel held, delighted, and content with the moment.

red hill // learning to see

13” x 21” Mixed Media Monoprint | Bailey Haines 2021

I often listen to music when I hike red hill and my mind drifts.

It seeps between the cracks in the rocks and follows the twisted roots far below the crust of earth that I walk. Layers upon layers upon layers below. Worlds.

In those moments of only breath and movement, my mind sees just enough to know that it doesn’t know.

Printed at the Pine Street Studio in the mountains of Colorado, the original prints were created with a Takach printing press. Each color that you see was a consecutive run through the press, layering form and color in unexpected ways.

spirit

12 x 18 Monoprint on Rives BFK

Edition of 3

1/3 and 2/3 SOLD

The landscape dances, touched by music that we cannot always hear.

These prints were created in honor of the wild things that move like the wind or sit so still that we do not think they move, but they do.

dear red hill

Dear Red Hill,

Sometimes I forget about you, in the midst of stretching and twisting for even the smallest view of Mt. Sopris.

In this slow down, I am seeing more clearly...things and people that are close, already held in my hands. I see you, the northern cradle of our little town, and I thank you.

sunday

10” x 14” Monoprint | Bailey Haines 2021

My very best Sundays are spent, in some portion, beneath a tree…really ANY tree, as long as there is something soft to lay down on, so that I can gaze up into the branches and watch the way the colors change as the leaves dance between light and shade. I like to think about how the roots spread beneath me deep down into the soil - in a mirror image of what I see above - and I feel held, cradled by this great being.

What Do We Know

13” x 21” Mixed Media Monoprint | Bailey Haines 2021

We exist on such a thin plane, treading the crust of this earth, with worlds beneath our feet and even more above our reach. Life pulses all around us, in frequencies outside of our perception.

What do we know?

A little…maybe a lot…. Enough to know there's more.

Printed at the Pine Street Studio in the mountains of Colorado, the original prints were created with a Takach printing press. Each color that you see was a consecutive run through the press, layering form and color in unexpected ways.

spring thaw

Dear Mount Sopris,

I could paint you every day

for the rest of my life and

each time you would be different.

Sun angles, cloud shadows, mood shifts

snow melts and earth bursting

in limes, green, yellow.

First, you are a lighthouse,

and a mirror,

then

a mother.

WE-Cycle Bikeshare

What would we otherwise miss, travelling through this landscape in a car or bus?  Nearer to the pace of our hearts or the beating of wings, we come to know this world.  Our thoughts open to the subtleties of life all around us.  As we move, may we learn how the earth moves, in moments, in seasons, and find our place in the great turning.

I was honored to collaborate with WeCycle and Carbondale Arts on the design of 18 bikeshare stations in Carbondale, CO. You can learn more about the project at Carbondale | WE-cycle
